Overglaze Enamel Bird-and-Flower Arabesque Pattern on a Black Background (Kōransha) 

黒地が珍しい香蘭社の作品。鮮やかな花と鳳凰が黒地に映え、細い金彩で描かれた唐草文がそれらを引き立て、香蘭社の技術の高さを示している。その生地は非常に薄づくりで、この黒地はブラックホースンと呼ばれ、碗皿以外も黒地の上に装飾を施した多様なものが作られた。 

Overglaze Enamel Bird-and-Flower Arabesque Pattern on a Black Background (Kōransha) 

This set by Kōransha features a rare black background color that accentuates the vivid flowers and phoenixes standing out against its black base. These are further enhanced by an arabesque pattern applied with fine gold paint that unmistakably demonstrates the high level of Kōransha’s craftsmanship. The ground of this set is exceptionally thin, and its black base coat was not only used on cups and saucers, but also on a variety of items that featured decorative designs over a black background.
